Audi Urban Future Award 2010

Six international architectural firms have for the first time been invited to develop their visions for the future under the banner of a specific topic. A systematic interdisciplinary way of working is common to all of the studios. An original outlook is evident in their past projects, leading to results that surpass those of traditional architectonic approaches.

Here is a brief look at the architects who have been invited to take part in the first Audi Urban Future Award:

Alison Brooks Architects, London

Alison Brooks Architects has made a name for itself with complex master plans, major residential projects and its sympathetic, experimental approach – making them the context-sensitive experts for urban development and architecture. Born in Canada, Alison Brooks founded her firm in 1996.

BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, Copenhagen

The projects of Bjarke Ingels stand out for their unconventional designs and their fresh approach. The 35-year-old Dane is seen as a rising star on the international architectural scene. In 2005 he founded BIG – the Bjarke Ingels Group. Previously, he worked in the Office for Metropolitan Architecture.

Cloud 9, Barcelona

Enric Ruiz-Geli and his interdisciplinary team of architects at Cloud 9 have been operating at the interface between architecture and art, digital processes and technological material developments since 1997. The highly complex projects undertaken by the studio include stage designs and buildings, room installations and industrial products.

  • Diller Scofidio + Renfro, New York

The New York firm belonging to Elisabeth Diller, Ricardo Scofidio and Charles Renfro is an intellectual think-tank for visions which test out the boundaries of the possible. Elisabeth Diller and Ricardo Scofidio opened their studio in 1979. Charles Renfro joined them as a third partner in 2004.

  • J. Mayer H. Architects, Berlin

The interdisciplinary firm of architects in Berlin explores the interfaces between architecture and urban development, art installations and new material developments. The projects acquire a cultural significance by blending construction with sustainability and urbanity with architectural composition. Jürgen Mayer H. opened his studio in 1996.

  • 02_Standardarchitecture_office

    Standardarchitecture, Beijing

Avant-garde from China: the team around Zhang Ke at the young firm of Standardarchitecture is making its mark with designs that are experimental and, on occasion, provocative. The Beijing-based architects employ some very simple materials for their work, such as bamboo or brick. Standardarchitecture has been on the scene since 2001.
